The collection contains materials collected by and related to Dalton B. Suggs during his career as an aerospace engineer.
The material includes his work history, as well as patents and inventions. The collection includes documents, correspondence,
design drafts, news articles and clippings, and photographs. Before processing, the collection was organized into like materials
and the original order was maintained in describing this collection. Photos that were within document groups were photocopied.
The original photographs were organized into "Series II: Photographs," and the photocopy placed within the documents.

Biographical / Historical
Dalton B. Suggs had an extensive career designing and testing aircraft power plants and engines. He began as an aircraft mechanic
and barnstormer in Ft. Worth Texas, and most of his career was spent with General Dynamics, under the Convair Division in
both Ft. Worth, and San Diego, California. He was an inventor with many patents and also proposed ideas for city infrastructure
like a Coronado Bridge cable car. One of the most famous aircrafts he worked on was the Pogo (or XFY-1) which was the first
aircraft with vertical takeoff.
After years spent focusing on aircraft, Suggs, eventually worked in Missile and Space programs, working for the Astronautics
Missile Division of general Dynamics and the Atlas program.

The collection was donated to the San Diego Air & Space Museum.
