Description
This collection consists of the photographs, artwork, and papers of makeup artist, Newton J. Jones (1908-1983), known professionally as Newt Jones.
Background
Newton J. Jones (1908-1983), known professionally as Newt Jones, was an in demand makeup artist for Hollywood. He worked for United Artists, Paramount, RKO, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia, Warner Brothers, and CBS. Jones was also a Naval Reserve Specialist Second Class during World War II. He employed his makeup skills to disguise Office of Strategic Services (OSS) espionage agents on secret missions. He also created a training manual and training film for OSS agents on how to disguise themselves and partnered with Hollywood makeup mogul, Max Factor, to create skin and hair coloring for troops operating on the front lines of Asia.
