Description
The Helene Moglen papers is comprised of records from Moglen's academic career at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Included in the collection are her resarch files, teaching and writing material, administrative material, and her email. Moglen was a feminist literary scholar and author who taught at UC Santa Cruz from 1978 to 2008. She was the first female dean in the UC system and she also founded the Women's Studies program at UCSC.
Background
Helene Moglen (1936-2018) was a feminist literary scholar and author who taught at UC Santa Cruz from 1978 to 2008. Moglen joined UCSC in 1978 as Dean of Humanities, Provost of Kresge College, and a professor of literature. She was the first female dean in the UC system. Moglen also founded the Women's Studies program and chaired the program from 1984-1989. Around 1980, Mogeln established and chaired UCSC's first sexual harassment committee. She also founded the Institute for Advanced Feminist Research and was the director until 2006. Moglen retired in 2008 but continued to teach one class a year until 2013.
