    Biography

    James Short was born in Kentucky, July 17, 1822. He arrived in California in 1850. He was a farmer in Galt, Sacramento County. He served as Deputy County Assessor, Justice of the Peace, and School Trustee. He married his first wife, Maria Wade, in 1863. He was married a second time to Mrs. Augusta R. Sawyer.
