Biography
Minnie's Hotel opened for business at 28 South Center Street, Stockton,
Calif. in 1951. The business was operated from the first by Mrs. Minnie
McLane--later Dugger (1954), then Palmer (1964). This establishment, located in
an old, run-down neighborhood, catered chiefly to agricultural workers and
transients. Rooms were seventy-five cents a night there at a time when the
middle class considered Motel 6's six dollars per night rates a true bargain.
The Minnie Hotel ceased operation in 1965.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of scattered business papers of the
proprietress and nine years' worth of the Minnie Hotel register.
