Biography
A collection of pamphlets, letters, and published documents on President
Lincoln's career, assassination, and legacy. It was collected and compiled by
Dr. Milton H. Shutes (1883-1964), an amateur historian, physician and member of
the University of California Student Health Service staff (1913-1945). Dr.
Shutes published Lincoln and California (1943) and Lincoln and the doctors
(1957).
Scope and Content
The collection is in two boxes. Box 1 contains Shutes' correspondence,
miscellaneous Lincoln reminiscences, Shutes' book accession records and a bound
catalogue of his library. Box 2 is a collection of various Lincoln -related
pamphlets. The Special Collections library also includes some books on Lincoln
collected by Dr. Shutes.
