Description
From 1872 a lawyer and newspaper publisher at Snohomish, Washington, Morse traveled extensively about the Puget Sound country
and filled these notebooks with historical gleanings. There are two on "Settlement", 12 on the Indian war of 1855-1856, three
on the San Juan and other islands of Puget Sound; two on logging and mining on Puget Sound; and others of miscellaneous matter.
Accompanying the mss. (as P-B 54) are three letters from Morse to H.H. Bancroft, Snohomish City, 1880-1881, concerning the
latter's use of his notes; and a letter, E.C. Ferguson to Bancroft, 1880, forwarding a letter by Morse and telling of his
own pioneering experiences.
