Carrie Estelle Betzold (1875-1958) married Edward L. Doheny, a Wisconsin-born Colorado miner who discovered oil in Los Angeles
in 1892. When her husband died, Estelle Doheny inherited a fortune, with which she created a fine book collection. The collection
consists of correspondence, photographs, and printed material related to Estelle Doheny and her library.
