Scope and content:

Manuscript includes notes on the materia medica lectures of Professor Grazer in the California College of Pharmacy, taken by Frank Branson Petrie. These notes consist of descriptions of plants and medicinal properties found in different parts of the plant, including information on the geographic location of the plants, and the Latin term given to the plant.

Biographical / historical:

Dr. Grazer was responsible for the College of Pharmacy herbarium. Dr. Petrie graduated from the College of Pharmacy in 1888; he then entered the School of Medicine, and received his M.D. in 1891. In 1892 Dr. Petrie was clinical assistant in the Ophthalmological and Otological clinics. In 1894, he was assistant to the Chair of Rhinology and Laryngology, Dr. Henry Wagner.
