Description
Eugene W. Biscailuz (1883- ) was the first superintendent of the California Highway Patrol and the sheriff of Los Angeles county. The collection consists of correspondence, photographic negatives, photographs, ephemera, election returns, scrapbooks, and memorabilia relating to Biscailuz's career.
Background
Biscailuz was born March 12, 1883 in Los Angeles, California; attended St. Vincent's College; attended USC Law School, 1916; joined Los Angeles County sheriff's department in 1907; undersheriff, 1921-1929; became first superintendent of California Highway Patrol, 1929; returned as undersheriff, 1931-1932; appointed sheriff in 1932, elected in 1934; retired in 1958.
