Biography
Taylor was born in Grass Valley, California, on July 15, 1904; BA (1928) and MA (1932), University of California at Berkeley;
during the 1930s-40s, he taught at University of California at Berkeley and University of Texas at Austin; in the early 1950s
he began to teach at the University of Southern California; drawn to the black and white woodcut in 1959, Taylor went on to
produce a large body of work in the medium; his work was published in
The Gulf of California (1959),
The Boulevard (1965), and
Baja California Woodcuts (1969); died on March 28, 1978 in Los Angeles, California.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of 240 woodblocks, 255 woodblock prints, correspondence, diaries, sketches, and printing tools related
to Taylor and his work.
