Description
Records consist of correspondence and business records, including abstracts, affidavits, deeds, and other legal documents, pertaining to the activities of this Nevada City, California law firm. With one exception, these date from 1863 to 1925, during which time Niles Searls was in practice with his son, Fred Searls, and grandson, Carroll Searls. Searls' files particularly relate to the settlement of land tenure issues, estates, and mining interests in the West, although a small amount of family correspondence is also included.
