    Abstract: This collection comprises over 400 audio and video cassettes collected by the University of California, Irvine, Office of University Communications that document university events that received local and national attention, including the opening of the Reeve-Irvine Research Center, campus awards, significant faculty accomplishments, and the UC Irvine Medical Center fertility study. Additionally, the collection documents staff training, event footage, and press conferences.

    Historical Background

    The Office of University Communications serves as the public affairs office for the University of California, Irvine. According to the university's Administrative Policies and Procedures, the Office of University Communications "leads efforts to promote UC Irvine's mission, priorities, and values; raise awareness of its achievements, accomplishments, and cultural events; and increase the involvement and support of its internal and external communities through regular communications to target audiences. Through partnerships with campus units designed to maximize University resources, University Communications manages an integrated strategic communications effort [.]"
