Biography
"Oran Young is a renowned Arctic expert and a world leader in the fields of international governance and environmental institutions.
His scientific work encompasses both basic research focusing on collective choice and social institutions, and applied research
dealing with issues pertaining to international environmental governance and the Arctic as an international region. Professor
Young served for six years as vice-president of the International Arctic Science Committee and was the founding chair of the
Committee on the Human Dimensions of Global Change within the National Academy of Sciences in the United States. He currently
chairs the Scientific Committee of the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change and the Steering
Committee of the Arctic Governance Project. Among the more than 20 books he has authored are The Institutional Dimensions
of Environmental Change and Governance in World Affairs."

Arrangement
Collection is arranged in the following series:

Series I, Office Files, contains alphabetical subject files from Young's campus office. Files are generally titled as received. (8 cartons).

Series II, IDGEC, contains the following subseries: General, Administrative (Dartmouth IPO), Projects - Carbon Cycle, and Scientific. Files
are titled and arranged as received. Files relating to IDGEC can also be found in the Office Files and Meetings series. (7
cartons).

Series III, IHDP, contains the following subseries: General, and Core Projects. Files are titled and arranged as received. Files relating to
IHDP can also be found in the Office Files and Meetings series. (3 cartons).

Series IV, Meetings, Workshops & Conferences, contains files on meetings for various organizations that Young belonged to (primarily IDGEC, IHDP, ESSP). Arranged chronologically
by meeting date. The IDGEC and IHDP series also contain files relating to meetings for those organizations. (4 cartons).

Series V, Courses, contains planning, schedules, readers, etc. for courses taught by Young at Dartmouth and UCSB. Arranged by course number.
(2 cartons).
Many of the files are labeled by Young and his office in acronyms or abbreviations. The best effort has been made to "translate"
