A letter from Henry B. Atkins to members of the Society of California Pioneers in answer to a request for the story of his
overland journey to California in 1849.
Background
Henry Blatchford Atkins was born in New York City on August 25th 1816. He arrived in San Francisco in 1849 after a difficult
six-month journey from the Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Atkins died in 1901.
