Background
Lerner was born on January 10, 1915; AB, Roosevelt University, 1942; Ph.D, University of Southern California, 1968; in 1970
became a lecturer at UCLA Extension; became a poet and professor of psychology at California State University, Los Angeles;
founded and became director of the Poetry Therapy Institute in 1972; published works include Rhymed and unrhymed (1965), Follow-up (1967), Psychoanalytically oriented criticism of three American poets: Poe, Whitman and Aiken (1970), and Starting points (1971).
