Abstract: John Elof Boodin (1869-1950) was professor of philosophy at Grinnell College (1900-4), University of Kansas (1904-13), Carleton
College (1913-28), and UCLA (1928-39). He also served as president of the American Philosophical Association, Western Division
(1932-33). The collection includes correspondence, lecture notes, manuscripts, student term papers, printed material, memorabilia,
and photographs.

Boodin was born on September 14, 1869 in Pjetteryd, Sweden; AB (1895) and AM (1896), Brown University, and Ph.D, Harvard University,
1899; instructor in philosophy at Brown University, 1896-97; Walker fellow, lecturer at Harvard University, 1899-1900; professor
of philosophy at Grinnell College (1900-4), University of Kansas (1904-13), Carleton College (1913-28), and UCLA (1928-39);
emeritus professor, UCLA; president, American Philosophical Association, Western Division, 1932-33; publications include
Truth and reality (1911),
God (1934), and
A cosmic philosophy (1947); he died on November 14, 1950.
