In August of 1913, Yeats, while staying with the Tuckers at The Prelude, a house in Ashdown Forest, found lodgings in Stone Cottage, Colman's Hatch. There he settled in with Ezra Pound acting as his secretary.
When the First World War broke out the Ashdown Forest was declared a prohibited area, and both Yeats and the Pounds, as aliens, were asked to leave but with Robert Bridges interceding on their behalf, the Home Office allowed them to stay. At the end of the war, Ezra Pound went to Paris, while Yeats travelled first to Oxford then to his tower at Thoor Ballyle near Coole Park.
