    Abstract: Idwal Jones (1888-1964) was a journalist, and author of short stories, articles and books. The collection consists of correspondence and ephemera, manuscripts, galley proofs, page proofs, and first editions of works by Jones including Vermilion, Vines in the sun, Houses unto aliens, High bonnet, Ark of empire, Jake Zeitlin, The splendid shilling, and China boy.

    Biography

    Jones was born on December 8, 1888 in Festiniog, Wales; privately educated; prospector and rancher in California; later worked as a journalist for the San Francisco Examiner, living in France and Italy as a correspondent; became editorial writer and columnist for the New York American, and a book critic for Life magazine; contributed short stories and articles to magazines; won Commonwealth Club literary award in 1945 & 1951; published books include The splendid shilling (1926), China boy and other tales (1936), High bonnet (1945), The Sierra (1947), Vermilion (1947), Vines in the sun (1949), and Ark of empire (1951); he died in 1964.

    Collection consists of manuscripts, galley proofs, page proofs, and first editions of works by author Idwal Jones. Includes Vermilion, Vines in the sun, Houses unto aliens, High bonnet, Ark of empire, Jake Zeitlin, The splendid shilling, and China boy. Also contains correspondence and ephemera.
