Background
- Scope and content:
-
The inventory of the Notgemeinschaft für eine freie Universität records was created by the organization itself for its own internal use, and that document has been attached here as a guide to the collection. The inventory and corresponding box list were generated from a database kept by the Notgemeinschaft and have been attached to the finding aid as PDFs to serve as supplemental guides to the collection. The original physical inventory and box list are located in boxes 1410-1411 of the collection itself, and the PDF versions were created by scanning and OCRing those documents. Because the inventory was generated from a database, the information contained within is structured by numbered fields. Below is a key to these fields:
#00: Line break #20: Highest hierarchical level (series level or subseries level) #21: The second highest hierarchical level (sub-series level or item level) #22: The third highest hierarchical level (sub-sub-series level or item level) #23: The fourth highest hierarchical level (sub-sub-sub-series level or item level) #24: The fifth highest hierarchical level (item level) #86: "Mappennummer (n) laut Standortverzeichnis," which translates to "folder numbers run in standard order." This likely refers to the following #90 field, which gives the individual item/file number. #90: Item/file number
To find materials in the Notgemeinschaft für eine freie Universität records, first review the inventory, then consult the box list to determine the box location of the files.
