    Abstract: Henry Winchester Rolfe (b.1858) was a English instructor at Cornell University (1883-85), professor of Latin at Swarthmore College (1885-90), lecturer in Latin literature at the University of Pennsylvania (1891-92), and associate professor of Greek at Stanford University (1900-10). The collection consists of correspondence, notes, clippings, manuscripts of articles, printed lecture course material, family photographs, ephemera, and periodicals.

    Biography

    Rolfe was born on May 8, 1858 in Dorchester, Massachusetts; AB (1880) and AM (1885), Amherst College; attended University of Leipzig, 1881-83; instructor in English, Cornell University, 1883-85; professor of Latin, Swarthmore College, 1885-90; lecturer in Latin literature, University of Pennsylvania, 1891-92; associate professor of Greek, Stanford University, 1900-10; publications include Petrarch, the first modern scholar and man of letters (with James H. Robinson, 1898); he died in 1945.
