Description
Walter H. Ziegler (1891-1974) managed Holly Sugar Corporation's plant in Alvarado, California (now Union City, California) before being named manager of the corporation's sugar refining facilities. This small collection contains materials related to the history of the Holly Sugar Corporation, specifically its plant in Alvarado, California. Included are several manuscripts on the subject by Dan Gutleben, correspondence between Ziegler and Gutleben, and photographs of the factory from 1935-1942.
Background
Walter Harvey Ziegler was born in Illinois on April 9, 1891. He managed Holly Sugar Corporation's plant in Alvarado, California (now Union City, California) before being named manager of the corporation's sugar refining facilities. After retirement, he farmed sugar beets on his property in the Knights Landing area for Spreckels Sugar Company.
