Charles H. and Emeline Soper had a small farm in Norton County, Pennsylvania after the Civil War. In 1883 Charles traveled
to California, and a year later his wife (Emeline) and daughter (Catharine) joined him. They bought a house in Alhambra, California,
but Charles died soon after, in 1885. Mrs. Charles H. Soper and her daughter remained there the rest of their lives.
