Background

Scope and content:

The collection consists of book drafts, writings, manuscripts, correspondence, notes, printed matter, one reference records box, and two microfilm reels relating to the work and career of historian Edward Frederick Willis. Willis's work and research are related to World War I, with an emphasis on Herbert Hoover and Russian prisoners of war, American relief administration operations, the Allied Maritime Transport Council, the blockade of Germany, and the Bonus Expeditionary Forces March on Washington in 1932.

The correspondence series consists of letters related to personal and professional matters. The letters document Willis's inquiries about materials related to Bonus March, a letter from Herbert Hoover to Luther H. Reichelderfer, letters and copies of telegrams to Herbert Hoover, and correspondence from General Douglas MacArthur to General Perry, and others. Biographical / historical:

Edward F. Willis (1904-1979) was an American historian, Professor Emeritus of William Paterson College (now University), and former head of the History Department at Jersey City Junior College, Jersey City, New Jersey.
