Abstract: Philip Edward Chandler (1908- ) worked in nurseries in Los Angeles area, and became a highly respected garden designer. He
also taught at Santa Monica College for many years. The collection consists of correspondence, client files, plant lists,
teaching and research notes, horticultural slides and photographs related to Chandler's career as a landscape architect.

Biography
Chandler was born in 1908 in Columbia, Missouri; graduated, University of Missouri; after graduating, he moved to California
and worked in nurseries in Los Angeles area; became a highly respected garden designer and taught at Santa Monica College
for many years; developed annotated plant lists and catalogs for his classes; was a popular speaker and writer on horticulture
and garden design.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of correspondence, client files, plant lists, teaching and research notes, horticultural slides and photographs
related to Chandler's career as a landscape architect. Also includes writings of Chandler and Bob Armacost, as well as personal
files.
