    Biography/Administrative History

    The Bill Hill Collection was created by James H. Cooke. Cooke was active in Carmel’s USO, serving on the Operating Committee for the Carmel USO in addition to the Advisory Council for the Monterey Peninsula’s USO. Along with his wife Ruth Cooke, James Cooke dedicated those war years to the servicemen and women who came to the USO. This collection reflects his commitment to the USO. The newspaper clippings are full of the events and people who made this particular USO an outstanding example across the country. The photographs, many taken by Fort Ord staff photographers, also show the USO in action.

    This collection consists of two boxes of newspaper clippings, photographs, correspondence, and flyers.
