Description
The collection includes photographs, negatives, and slides taken by Clifford E. Briggs of Allis-Chalmers farm equipment and aerial photographs of farms.
Background
Clifford E. Briggs was head of Advertising and Sales Promotion for the Allis-Chalmers Farm Equipment Division. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1937 with a major in Agricultural Journalism and began his career as a livestock radio reporter for the Kansas City Drovers Telegram. From there, he worked in the Catalog Division of Sears, Roebuck, and Company until enlisting in the United States Army in 1941. After seven and a half years of active duty, he joined the Army Reserves and served in the 84th Division while working full time at the Allis-Chalmers Farm Equipment Division. Around 1958, Clifford Briggs came to the Bakersfield, California area to photograph Allis-Chalmers equipment for catalog layouts.
