Background
Many comic books published before the 1980's did not contain Latino/Latina themes or characters. One of the first comic books
to include such material was Love and Rockets, a self-published comic book by the three Hernandez brothers- Gilbert, Jaime, and Mario. The comic book was first published
in 1982 and later published by the comic book publisher, Fantagraphics. Today, there is an annual comic book expo, the Latino
Comic Expo, to showcase the works of Latino/Latina artists as well as other comic book artists.
