    Biography/Administrative History

    Thomas Celia, Sr., was born in California around 1901 to parents of Italian origins. By 1930, he was living in San Francisco with his wife and young son, and operating a bookbindery. The paper ruling business called Thomas Celia & Son opened in 1952 and operated until closure in early 1989, after the 1987 death of Thomas Celia, Sr. and the steady loss of business to digital industries.

    The collection spans the existence of the Thomas Celia & Son paper ruling business, and includes information on expenses and orders, product samples, and brochures and catalogs for paper used in Celia’s field of work.
