Description
Pepperdine University houses the Eta Psi chapter of the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society. Membership for
students and faculty is a recognition of excellence in scholarship and creativity. The Pepperdine chapter sponsors poetry
and literary readings and engages in community volunteer activities. Students have the opportunity to submit creative writing
and essays to the society's two journals. They are also granted exclusive access to scholarships, internships and publishing
opportunities. This collection includes correspondence, photographs, and ephemera relating to Sigma Tau Delta events and conferences.
The collection also holds various editions of Sigma Tau Delta's two journals: the Rectangle and the Review.
Background
One of the largest members of the Association of College Honor Societies, Sigma Tau Delta has over 600 active chapters, more
than 900 faculty sponsors, and inducts approximately 7,000 members annually. Members of the Eta Psi chapter of Sigma Tau Delta
have the opportunity to be recognized for their outstanding achievements, enrich their education, and receive help with making
career choices and advancements. Members must be English majors, English minors, or Creative Writing majors. Students must
have a 3.33 GPA in the major and overall.Invitations are sent to eligible candidates in the fall and spring semesters. The
New Member Installation Ceremony is held once a year in the spring, with the Honors Banquet traditionally to follow.
