Background
The Heart Mountain incarceration camp opened August 12, 1942, in Cody, Wyoming, six months after President Roosevelt issued
Executive Order 9066. In October that same year, The Heart Mountain Sentinel published its first weekly tabloid. The newspaper
focused on camp life and included official announcements, events, news from other camps, and additional information. The Heart
Mountain Sentinel ran until July 28, 1945, after it was announced in July 1945 that the Heart Mountain incarceration camp
would close November 15, 1945.
