This collection contains letters, photographs, newspaper articles and clippings related to Everett "Jake" Jacobs. Photographs
in the collection include Jacobs family life, work at KNX and KNXT, events held at the radio station, and images of his time
in the military. Subjects include journalism, radio, and media.
Background
Born on May 13, 1924, Everett "Jake" Jacobs was the youngest sibling to his mother, Katie Jacobs. Jacobs and his brothers,
Owens and Melvin, served in the military during World War II. After his career in the military, Jacobs went to East Los Angeles
College and studied journalism. He then transferred to Los Angeles College and the Los Angeles Institute of Music. After working
at KNC, he received a grant in 1967 to study Urban Affairs at Columbia University. Everett continued to expand his journalism
career and worked at KPOP, KGFJ, and KNXT. Jacobs received several awards during his career, including the Golden Mike Award
and the Distinguished Media Men's Award from the National Association of Media Women. Jacobs retired from KNX radio in 1989
and died on October 29, 1992.
