The Redwood Chapter of the Sierra Club was founded in Santa Rosa, California in 1958 by a group of longtime members of the National Sierra Club. As of 1981, the Redwood Chapter is one of 13 chapters in California - one of 53 chapters in the United States and Canada. The membership consists of a broad spectrum of people who are united in their enjoyment of the outdoors and deep concern for the environment. The Redwood Chapter encompasses a geographically vast region composed of six local groups representing all or part of Northwest California that includes the Lake Group, Mendocino Group, Napa Group, Solano Group, Sonoma Group, and the North Group (Del Norte, Humboldt, Trinity and Western Siskiyou counties).
