The Mass Communication and Journalism Department records measure 8 linear feet and date from 1952 to 1975 and 2006. The audiotapes
comprising the bulk of the collection were found in a storeroom of the Academic Innovation Center in the basement of the library.
The campus radio programs are comprised of "Spin Back the Years," a weekly program by the student committee of Fresno State
College. In addition, there is a three-week series entitled "Talks of the Theatre." In the convocation ceremonies, there is
a speech by the then president, Frederic Ness. The other audiotapes are recordings of conversations among the students involved
in the ceremonies.
The course lectures contains recordings from the Criminology, Linguistics, American Literature, Psychology, and Philosophy
departments. There are a number of speeches on changes which could be made at both high school and university levels of the
California education system. The political speeches cover topics of racial segregation, Vietnam and the quest for peace, the
Cold War and undeveloped nations. There are also many talks by religious figures to Fresno State College students about issues
such as the existence of God, marriage, sex and "what makes an act right or wrong?" Also in the collection are topical speeches
on issues such as alcoholism, drugs, homosexuality, and prostitution. The theatrical productions cover a wide variety of genres,
from Shakespeare to musicals.
Also contained in the collection are materials on the annual Roger Tatarian Journalism Symposium.
