Background
Founded in 1978 by Rev. Robert Humphries of the United States Mission, Hudson House Inc. was a non-profit corporation offering low-cost housing, meals, and other social services to gay men and lesbians in need of assistance. Hudson House emerged from earlier efforts to provide emergency assistance to gay men and lesbians in Los Angeles, first by Morris Kight and the Gay Liberation Front, followed by Pat Rocco and the Gay Community Services Center.
