Description
This collection contains materials related to the life and work of noted civil engineer
William McMillan, who received his Bachelors and Engineers' degrees from Stanford University
in 1911 and 1912. Incluided are biographical materials, news clippings, correspondence, and
technical reports related to McMillan's engineering career. Also included are correspondence
and news clippings related to McMillan's time spent in the Europe during World War I as a
member of the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
Background
William Bruce McMillan received his Bachelors and Engineers degrees from Stanford in 1911
and 1912. His father, John G. McMillan, served as the county eningeer of Santa Clara County
for 24 years. The senior McMillan and another son, Percy, ran Mcmillan and McMillan, civil
engineering firm for which William McMillan continuously consulted until his death in 1972.
