Biography
The Hal Roach Studios was a film production company founded in Culver City in 1920. Specializing in
comedies, it was the most prolific and durable independent producer of shorts, supplying films to Pathe,
MGM, and United Artists.

The Hal Roach Studios scripts and production material spans the years 1924-1936 and encompasses 3.6
linear feet. The collection consists of scripts and other production documents, including continuities,
dialogue breakdowns, production reports, schedules, and treatments. The majority of these papers are for
films starring Charley Chase, but the Boy Friends, Irvin S. Cobb, Harry Langdon, Our Gang, Spats, and the
Taxi Boys are also represented.
