Biographical/Historical note
Richard J. Shavelson is Margaret Jacks Professor of Education and Professor of Psychology (by courtesy) at Stanford University.
He holds degrees from the University of Oregon (B.A., Psychology), San Jose State College (M.A., Psychology), and Stanford
(Ph.D., Educational Psychology). Before joining Stanford's faculty, he taught at the University of California, Los Angeles,
and the University of California, Santa Barbara. From 1987-1993 he was Dean of the Graduate School of Education at Santa Barbara.
At Stanford, he served as I James Quillan Dean of the School of Education and as affiliated faculty at the Woods Institute
for the Environment. His research and teaching interests include research design, research methods, and assessment for education.
