Biographical / Historical
Lance Casebeer possessed one of the largest vintage paperback collections in the world (by the year 2000 it was considered
the only complete collection of all paperbacks published between 1938 and 1968) and he did much to popularize paperback book
collecting and study. Casebeer originally dealt in comic books but began in paperbacks sometime in the 1960s. In 1976 he founded
LanceCon, a series of annual party/meetings at his home in Portland, Oregon. He published the
Collecting Paperbacks newsletter for many years and also contributed to the
Paperback Price Guides. After his death in 2003, his collection was dispersed despite his wish for it to be kept together.
