Abstract: The Elbert Emerson
Stickels Korean War Diary contains a single diary recording Stickels' experiences in 1951,
while he served as a Captain in the United States Army during the Korean War. The diary
entries were kept in a calendar published by the Army Mutual Aid Association. It has
military personnel resources in the front pages. Entries cover daily activities during two
service tours and leave time including military assignments and duties, letters written and
received, and locations traveled. Personal facts like birthdays, addresses, and account
balances were written down in the back of the notebook.

Biographical / Historical
Elbert Emerson Stickels was a Captain in the United States Army and served in the Korean
War. He was born in Eugene, Oregon in 1915 and died in 2001. He was married to Margaret
Belle (Waddle) Stickels. At one point they lived together in Salinas, California.
Scope and Contents
Elbert Emerson Stickels kept this diary throughout 1951. The diary entries were kept in a
calendar published by the Army Mutual Aid Association. It has military personnel resources
in the front pages. Entries cover daily activities during two service tours and leave time
including military assignments and duties, letters written and received, and locations
traveled. Entries were written while Stickels was serving in Korea during the Korean War.
