    Biography / Administrative History

Marjorie "Marge" Susan Larsen (1916-2014) influenced sports education in Stanislaus and San Joaquin County communities. Her most notable contribution to sports education was Speed-A-Way, a ball game designed in 1950 which stressed running, kicking, and throwing actions. She grew up in Tracy, California, graduated from University of California,Berkeley in 1938,and received a Master' Degree from University of the Pacific in 1947. In the 1940s she worked as an English, History, and Physical Education teacher in Newman, California. She spent the rest of her teaching years in Stockton, California at Edison High School and retired in 1972. From the 1980s until her death, Larsen supported the University of the Pacific women's sports. The Marge Larsen Endowment of Women's Athletics at Pacific was established in 2003. Larsen represented revolutionary status for women in the late 1940s and early 1950s. She was a woman who dedicated her life to the physical education for girls and young women.
