Description
The collection consists of family, mining, personal, and local history material collected by Barden Stevenot. The material is made up of correspondence, photo albums, research documents, mining reports, and maps.
Background
A fifth-generation son of Calaveras County and the last of the Stevenot family line, Barden Stevenot was born in Angels Camp in 1936, the son of Edward Stevenot and Cornelia Barden. He graduated from Bret Harte High School in 1954 and in 1959 from Sacramento State University, with a degree in cultural anthropology. He then served in the U.S. Navy as an explosive ordinance disposal unit diving officer in Hawaii and the Pacific.
