Description
This collection consists of 2 boxes (2.5 linear feet) of records including magazine and newspaper clippings, press releases both rough and final drafts, staff newsletters, event invitations, installation photographs, and correspondence in the form of departmental memoranda, type written letters, and telegraphs primarily to and from the Public Information Director regarding exhibitions which showed from 1973-1974. The exhibition files from the Office of Public Information cover the following exhibitions: African Textiles and Decorative Arts, American Narrative Painting, American Paintings In Los Angeles Collections, Campbell Collection of Decorative Arts, Fabric and Fashion: Twenty Years of Costume Council Gifts, Gustave Moreau Exhibition, Helena Hernmarck Tapestries Exhibition, Imperial Faberge Easter Egg, Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Paintings from the U.S.S.R., Impressionists and the Salon, 1874-1886, L.A. Six, Part I and Part II, Max Bill Exhibition, Miniature Paintings and Other Treasures from the Collection of Edwin Binney III, Monumental Silver from the Gilbert Collection, Selections from Cirrus Editions Ltd., Studies in Connoisseurship: The Sackler Collection of Chinese Paintings, The Art of the Japanese Sword, The Greek Vase, and The Wells Collection: Shakespeare Service. Each exhibition's number is also indicated in the container list.
Background
The records in this collection were produced by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Office of Public Information, a department which was overseen by the Deputy Director of Administration and was composed primarily of the Public Information Director and the Assistant Public Information Director. In the year 1973, Charles M. Weisenberg was the Public Information Director and Sheldon E. Erlich was the Assistant Public Information Director. In the years 1974 through 1975 Philippa Calnan was the Public Information Director, Nancy Reid was her secretary, and Louis Arnoff was the Assistant Public Information Director.
