Abstract: The Kevin McCarty City Council District 6 records primarily documents politician Kevin McCarty's ten-year term as a member
of the Sacramento City Council for the 6th ditrict. Material dates from 1997 to 2014, with the bulk from 2000 to 2006. The
collection consists of legal documents, correspondence, meeting minutes, fliers, articles, VHS tapes, CDs, DVDs, and floppy
discs.

Biographical / Historical
Born in Sacramento on January 6, 1972, Kevin McCarty received his high school diploma through adult education before attending
American River Community College and earning a bachelor's degree in political science from CSU Long Beach and a master's degree
in public policy and administration from CSU Sacramento.
After beginning his career as a Housing and Redevelopment Commissioner, McCarty served on the Sacramento City Council from
2004-2014, representing the 6th district. During those ten years, he worked on youth programs, gun laws, rental housing issues,
and clean air policies. He also helped to create the Sacramento Little Saigon district, the City Whistleblower Hotline program,
and the Independent Auditor Department. Elected to represent Sacramento and parts of the unincorporated Sacramento County
as a member of the California State Assembly in 2014, McCarty serves as the Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee.

This collection contains two boxes of material related to Kevin McCarty's ten year term as a Sacramento City Council member
for the 6th district, including material on gun laws and the Leon A. McCarty Sports Foundation. Material dates from 1997 to
2014, with the bulk from 2000 to 2006. The collection consists of legal documents, correspondence, meeting minutes, fliers,
articles, VHS tapes, CDs, DVDs, and floppy discs.
