Biography/Administrative History
Clifford A. Starr was a Southern Pacific Railroad employee from 1900 until 1947. He worked as a brakeman until 1907 and then
as a conductor for the rest of his career, primarily in the San Joaquin Division. Throughout his life he was a member of
the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the Order of Railway Conductors of America, and the United Transportation Union. His
Southern Pacific 1919 pass names him local chairman of the Order of Railway Conductors.
Scope and Content of Collection
This collection of books dates from December 1907 to October 1946, complete except for a break between June 1936 and January
1937. There are also 11 Passenger Conductors Books dating from December 1908 to June 1926, a collection of membership cards
from the railroad organizations of which he was a member, Southern Pacific passes, and corporate correspondence relating to
his career.
