    Abstract: Cool School Oral History interviews, 2005-2006 consist of interviews conducted for the 2007 documentary by Morgan Neville, The Cool School, about the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles from 1957-1966.

    Materials are accessible in the Special Collections Reading Room on-site at the Getty Research Institute only. These materials are not available for interlibrary loan and may not be duplicated.
    Original recordings and duplication masters are restricted; use copies are available for use by qualified researchers. Use copies exist for most audio and video recordings in this collection, however, the production of use copies may be required for some materials before access can be granted and may add a delay to research requests. Advanced notice is required for the production of use copies.

    Immediate Source of Acquisition

    These materials were transferred to the Institutional Archives by the Getty Research Institute Department of Architecture and Contemporary Art (DACA). These recordings were obtained by DACA as research materials for the Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980 initiative led by the Getty that took place from October 2011-April 2012. All rights to these materials are retained by the original creators.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Cool School Oral History interviews, 2005-2006 consist of interviews conducted for the 2007 documentary by Morgan Neville, The Cool School, about the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles from 1957-1966. The interviews include gallery owners Walter Hopps and Irving Blum, along with artists, art historians, and art collectors.
