Description
A collection of research material related to the professional life of LeRoy Reuben Hafen, Western American author and historian.
Background
LeRoy Reuben Hafen (1893-1985) was the state historian at the State Historical Society of Colorado for 30 years from 1924 to 1954. Hafen was born in Nevada and educated in Utah and California; while in college Hafen married Ann Woodbury (1893-1970), a poet, author, and fellow historian. Hafen was the author of numerous articles and books on the history of the American West; he edited, in collaboration with Ann Hafen: The Far West and the Rockies (15 volumes) and was the editor of the ten-volume collection titled, The Mountain Men and the Fur Trade of the Far West. Hafen was a specialist in Colorado history, the fur trade, and overland routes to the West.
