    Abstract: Noele Brockman was born in Shanghai in 1927, and attended the Public and Thomas Hanbury School for Girls. After World War II, she worked for the United States military, where she met her husband, John Brockman, an American soldier. The two married in Shanghai, and lived in numerous places in both Europe and the United States before settling in San Jose, California. The collection contains items collected by the Brockmans during their time in China, including a jacket with hand-embroidered dragons, a sterling silver cigarette case with gold embossed dragons on the front, and a small sterling silver tray with a 1912 Chinese silver dollar embedded into the middle.

    Biographical Information:

    Noele Brockman was born on December 25, 1927. She grew up in Shanghai, attending the Public and Thomas Hanbury School for Girls. John Brockman was an American soldier stationed in China after World War II. The two met when Noele received a position working for the Military Police Battalion John was a part of, and they were soon married in Shanghai. They left China when the U.S. troops were evacuated, and due to John's work for the army, and then for a defense contractor, they lived in numerous locations in the United States and Europe. They had two daughters and once retired they permanently settled in San Jose, California.

    The John and Noele Brockman Collection contains items collected by the Brockmans during their time in China, including a jacket with hand-embroidered dragons, a sterling silver cigarette case with gold embossed dragons on the front, and a small sterling silver tray with a 1912 Chinese silver dollar embedded into the middle.
