Description
This collection consists of recorded sound and promotional materials relating to the death
metal music genre dating 1991-2010. Included are 12 '' 33 1/3 and 7'' 45 rpm sound discs,
posters, periodicals, stickers, patches, and promotional cards produced primarily by
Scandinavian death metal bands. Also included are materials from death metal bands in other
parts of the world, including Western Europe, North America, and South America.
Background
Death metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music. Beginning in the mid-1980s in the United
States with Florida-based bands Death, Obituary, and Morbid Angel, death metal gained
popularity in underground music scenes throughout the world, with a strong presence in
Scandinavian countries including Sweden and Norway.
