    Biography/Administrative History

    Isbell was born in 1824, she lived in Illinois, and she and her husband, Isaac, decided to go to California in 1846. She opened the first American School in California. They came to Ventura in 1864. In her honor, Isbell Middle School was named for her in 1925.
